HARPY EAGLE

APPEARENCE

The harpy eagle has a body length of 35 - 41 inches a 6 1/2 -foot wingspan, and weighs 10 - 20 pounds. The female can be as much as twice as heavy as her mate. It shares features common to most members of its family, Accipitradae. It has a strong, hooked bill coloured black, and relativly large piercing eyes. the broad wings and long tail serve it well in flight.

DIET

Harpy eagles feed primarily on animals that live in the trees, like sloths, monkeys, opussums and some reptiles and birds. Harpy eagles are highly maneuverable flyers and and strike there prey after a rapid pursuit through the trees.imagesCA3491GY.jpg

 BEHAVIOR

The behavior of the harpy eagle is little-known, aside from observation at a few nests, and of a very few account of it's foraging behavior.Judging by the prey that is brought to nests, harpy eagles often hunt in the canopy.
